Microdermabrasion

What is Microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion is a nonsurgical, noninvasive procedure that offers safe and controlled removal of the outer, dead layers of the skin. The remaining skin is more smooth, fresh and rejuvenated. This procedure utilizes sterile medical grade microcrystals that are propelled at a high speed against the surface of the skin. Debris and used crystals are simultaneously vacuumed into a sealed waste container and are disposed. There is no downtime associated with this treatment.

Microdermabrasion is performed in approximately 20 minutes and is a very comfortable treatment. It may stand alone as a treatment method, or it may be used to complement your home care regimen of skin care products.

What should I expect after my treatment?
You'll notice results even after the first treatment. Your skin will appear light pink and softer. The pinkness may persist longer with more aggressive treatments such as scar revisions, but no longer than a few days. It is safe to wear makeup on the following day or sooner as directed by your physician. Otherwise, your normal daily activities may be resumed immediately.

The treated area consists of newer and younger skin cells, therefore your skin initially will be more sensitive to the effects of ultraviolet radiation. Thus, you should always wear a sunscreen and avoid direct sun exposure of the treated area. We recommend MD Forté Environmental Protection Cream SPF 30 or Obagi Healthy Skin Protection SPF 35.

Chemical Peels

What is a Chemical Peel?
An effective approach to achieve healthier, more radiant skin without down time.
A chemical peel uses a chemical solution to improve and smooth the texture of the facial skin by removing its damaged outer layers. It is helpful for those individuals with facial blemishes, wrinkles and uneven skin pigmentation. Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) and alphahydroxy acids (AHAs) are most commonly used. The precise formula used may be adjusted to meet each patient's needs.

Microlaser Peel

What is a MicroLaser Peel?
Erbium MicroLaser Peel removes the damaged superficial layer of skin while promoting the growth of collagen. The MicroLaser Peel exfoliates your skin's tough, dull outer layer and reveals the healthier, brighter, and younger skin beneath.

Erbium MicroLaser Peel is a state-of-the-art technology in anti-aging procedures. The Erbium technology provides a more controlled and individualized program with less redness and shorter healing time than other conventional methods.

Erbium MicroLaser Peel is a laser treatment that removes a controlled thin layer of outer skin tissue which is then replaced by newer skin. The result is more uniform and consistent. The treatment is often used in conjunction with skin care programs to maintain healthy, vibrant skin.

What should I expect?
A consultation is necessary prior to scheduling your MicroLaser Peel. The consultation allows the physician to assess your skin to determine the optimal laser treatment for you. During consultation pre treatment and post treatment care instructions will be discussed. Some treatments may also require a skin care regimen before beginning your treatment.

You will need to discontinue use of retinal products and alpha or beta hydroxy acids at least 7 days prior to treatment but you may resume their use the day following treatment. A prescription for Valtrex or Famvir will be given to you prior to your procedure to help prevent any viral infections or cold sores. You will need to start taking this the day before your treatment. A topical anesthesia is applied in the office to anesthetize the skin that will be treated. If needed, mild sedatives may be requested prior to treatment. The Erbium laser's high energy to removes the superficial layer of skin. The laser light is absorbed by the water in your skin and instantaneously vaporizes a very small amount of tissue. Appropriate amount of superficial tissue layers are removed to optimize the results while minimizing the erythema and healing time. To maximize the healing process oxygen mist vitamin treatment is immediately followed

Laser resurfacing may cause the skin to become raw, red or pink with mild to moderate discomfort for a few days. Cool compresses are helpful following treatment to decrease any swelling or irritation. If your skin is pigmented, you may actually experience darkening of these areas prior to improvement. You will need to sleep with your head elevated on 1 to 2 pillows for the first couple of days after your treatment. You will be provided with a post-treatment recovery kit to promote healing. The following day you will need to return for your second oxygen mist vitamin treatment. You will need to avoid the sun as much as possible.

Symptoms immediately following the procedure resemble a sunburn, with mild peeling on the second day and redness fading after the first couple of days. Any discomfort can easily be managed with a pain reliever. Most patient recovery from the Erbium MicroLaser Peel generally take only a few days to heal.

Ebrium Laser Skin Resurfacing

What is an erbium laser skin resurfacing?
The Erbium laser is the latest advance for the treatment of aging and sun-damaged skin. The Erbium laser provides a safer, more accurate and less painful method of restoring a softer, smoother, more youthful-appearing skin. Patients can have their procedure performed in the doctor's office and be home that same day.

What are the advantages of Erbium Laser Skin Resurfacing?

What should I expect after my treatment?
Skin resurfacing with the Erbium laser results in less post-operative redness, less swelling and provides a more rapid healing than with the CO2 laser skin resurfacing methods. In most cases, patients are fully recovered and back to normal activities within 7-10 days. Immediately following the procedure, oxygen mist vitamin treatment is given to promote healing process. The treated areas are kept moist with post-treatment recovery kit provided specifically by the SkinRenew. You will need to return for post-operative oxygen mist vitamin treatment on the following day and as instructed by your physician to ensure adequate healing. Sun block should be applied at all times, despite the poor weather condition. Make-up can be worn after complete healing has occurred (generally in 7-10 days). Over the next few weeks, your fresh, new, pink skin will fade to a normal tone revealing a softer, smoother, younger look. Due to long-term effect of collagen stimulation, your skin will continue to improve up to 6 months after treatment. The effect may last 12-24 months. Repeat treatment may be done after 6 months, or may be combined with lighter peel (MicroLaser Peel or microdermabrasion) to maintain your newer younger skin.

Laser Hair Removal

What is laser hair removal?
If you are a man or a woman and have excess or unwanted hair, the new advanced laser hair removal is the approach to a smoother skin. The process is simpler and faster than any other treatment available. It gives you longer lasting results than any other hair removal method.

How does the process work?
To better understand the process, you need to understand hair growth. Many factors influence the growth of hair, such as age, weight, genetic predisposition, certain hormones, ethnicity and medications. All hair goes through three growth phases. Different locations of the body have different amounts of hair growing in different phases. Thus, making it difficult to predict how many treatments the individual will need in order to achieve the best effects. Laser hair removal is achieved by passing the laser light over the treated area. This process ensures easy treatment of large areas at one time without great discomfort

Is the laser hair removal permanent?
The laser hair removal is permanent reduction of hair – i.e. with treatments, number of hair follicles is reduced, hairs are less coarse, sparse, and duration of hair-free period is lengthened. Laser actually slows the process of growth by disabling the hair follicles. More than one laser treatment should be expected; and multiple treatment sessions may be required to obtain the degree of hair thinning that you desire.

Is the laser hair removal similar to electrolysis?
No, the laser procedure is much faster and significantly less painful in comparison to electrolysis. Even electrolysis has failed to produce permanent hair removal in most cases.

Is the treatment painful?
Most patients do not find the treatments uncomfortable of objectionable. Each laser pulse feels like a brief sensation of heat or feeling of snapping of rubber band or hot bacon grease on the skin. Certain skin areas may be more particularly sensitive, such as the upper lip and bikini area. If desired, an anesthetic cream may be applied to minimize such discomfort. Advance laser technology gives you the reassurance of hair removal that is convenient, fast, effective, and safe.

LASER TATTOO REMOVAL

What is a laser tattoo removal? How does laser therapy work?
A tattoo is created by depositing various colored pigments under the skin surface for decorative or cosmetic purposes. Many methods have been tried to remove tattoo, including surgical excision, use of various acids and bleaching agents, destruction by heat or cold, tattooing with flesh-colored pigment, dermabrasion, and outdated laser therapies. Many times therapies were ineffective or led to significant scarring. At SkinRenew, we offer the newest Q-Switched laser technology.

A high-powered Q-Switched Nd:YAG laser is used to remove unwanted tattoos and pigmented lesions (sunspots, freckles, etc.). It emits a highly focused beam of laser light, which passes harmlessly through the outer layer of the skin and is absorbed primarily by the tattoo ink or the excess pigment within the lesion. As quickly as the light is absorbed, it is quickly converted to heat. The sudden rise in temperature with the treatment targets and fractures the ink or pigment into tiny particles. Tattoo ink fragments are then carried away and cleared by your lymphatic system.

Is the treatment painful?
Most patients do not find the treatments uncomfortable of objectionable. Each laser pulse feels like a brief sensation of heat or feeling of snapping of rubber band or hot bacon grease on the skin. If desired, an anesthetic cream and local ice may be applied to minimize such discomfort. The treated area may feel tender after treatment, but subsides within a few days.

What can I expect after my treatment?
Immediately following the treatment, the treated area may be sore and tender to touch. Also, the skin will appear swollen and red and possibly bruised. This may be followed by crusting and scabbing which may persist 1-2 weeks. We recommend local icing as much as possible to decrease discomfort and swelling. The treated area will be more sensitive to sunlight. To minimize potential side effects of hyper- or hypo-pigmentation, we recommend that direct sun exposure is avoided and sunscreen be worn throughout the treatment course.

Will my tattoo disappear?
Results will vary depending upon the depth, age, and size of the tattoo and the kind of ink that was used. Multiple treatments are necessary to fade or remove your tattoo. Each treatment sessions are scheduled at intervals of 6-8 weeks to give ample time for your lymphatic systems to clear the tattoo. However, this interval can be longer or shorter, depending on your individual response. In some instances, significant fading of the tattoo can continue for up to 6 months after laser treatment.

LASER VASCULAR LESION REMOVAL

Whether born with them or acquired over the course of a lifetime, virtually everyone who reaches middle age typically gets there with one or more types of benign vascular lesions. With the new European laser technology, it is possible to greatly reduce or remove unsightly red marks and spider veins. Compression therapy works in conjunction with or as prevention of most common vascular lesions, specifically, the varicose veins. Thus, our certified fitters are available to help you find the perfect compression stocking to meet your needs.

How does it work?
Laser energy easily passes through the melanin barrier and does not interfere with pigment, enabling successful treatment of any skin type at any time during the year. Moreover, larger veins are completely closed and sealed, while smaller ones are effectively dissolved. This prevents the return of blood flow and recurrence of unsightly veins. Even better, this vein treatment is administered with little discomfort to the patient and no down time. Treatment is fast and usually completed in just a few sessions.

BOTOX® COSMETIC

What is BOTOX® Cosmetic?
BOTOX® Cosmetic is a simple, non-surgical, physician-administered treatment that can temporarily smooth frown lines between your brows. It is the only treatment of its type approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). BOTOX® Cosmetic is a natural, purified protein produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium, which reduces the activity of the muscles that cause those frown lines between the brows to form over time.

How Does BOTOX® work?
Normally, your brain sends electrochemical messages to your muscles to make them contract and move. These messages are transmitted from a nerve to the muscle by a substance called acetylcholine. When too much acetylcholine is released, muscles become overly active and spasm or tense up.

What is a BOTOX® Cosmetic procedure like?
It's a simple, 10-minute treatment that consists of a few tiny injections that most patients compare to the sensation of a bug bite. Overall, the discomfort is minimal and temporary. No anesthesia is needed. However, your doctor may choose to numb the injected area with a cold pack or anesthetic cream before the actual treatment.

Is the procedure safe?
BOTOX® Cosmetic is a natural, purified protein that is administered at very low doses. The effects of BOTOX® Cosmetic are usually confined to the injected region. It does not travel throughout the body.

What can I expect after my treatment? Side effects?
Within a few days there is a noticeable improvement of the injected site. Immediately following the procedure, you may notice slight bruising and swelling where BOTOX® Cosmetic was injected. This is only temporary and can be covered by makeup. We recommend local icing to minimize bruising and swelling. Most patients go right back to work or continue their activities immediately after the procedure. The most common side effects are headache, respiratory infection, flu syndrome, temporary eyelid droop, and nausea. Results may vary.

Will my facial expressions look unnatural?
Although the results are dramatic, it will not radically change your facial appearance. The muscles are simply relaxed, so you can still frown, smile, or look surprised without the wrinkles and creases.

How long with the effects last?
The effects of BOTOX® Cosmetic can last up to four months. If you're pleased with the results of a BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment, you'll probably want to get on a treatment schedule so you can keep on being pleased.

RESTYLANE®

What is Restylane®?
Restylane® is a safe and natural cosmetic dermal filler that restores volume and fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds.

What is Restylane® made of?
Restylane® is the first and only cosmetic dermal filler made of non-animal based hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance that already exists in the human body and is used to provide volume and fullness to the skin. The hyaluronic acid in Restylane® is a crystal-clear gel called NASHA®, on Non-Animal Stabilized Hyaluronic Acid. NASHA® is biodegradable and completely biocompatible with human hyaluronic acid.

Restylane® is made in Sweden, a nation known for health, nature, beauty and high-quality products. After decades of extensive research, Dr. Bengt Ågerup and the company Q-Med in Uppsala, Sweden, succeeded in developing a method to manufacture non-animal stabilized hyaluronic acid in the form of a gel, called NASHA®. The first application of Restylane® was launched in 1996. It is intended for wrinkle correction, lip enhancements, and correcting thin superficial lines around the mouth, on the forehead, and smile lines.

At SkinRenew Laser Medical Center, each physician who performs Restylane® treatments are especially selected by Q-Med, educated and trained in the procedure.

Is Restylane® safe? What about side effects?
Yes. Restylane® has been used safely by dermatologist and plastic surgeons since 1996 worldwide. It has been used in more than one million treatments in over 60 countries to correct a variety of wrinkles and to enhance the appearance and fullness of lips. Because Restylane® is non-animal-based and fully biocompatible, allergy testing is not required. There is virtually no risk of animal-based disease transmission or allergic reaction. The most commonly reported side effects were temporary redness and swelling at the injection site. These effects typically resolve within 2-3 days.

How is Restylane® different from BOTOX®?
Restylane® is a natural, cosmetic filler. In contrast, BOTOX® is a protein that relaxes the underlying muscles. Many patients have been very pleased after receiving treatment with both products. They work together in creating the results that you desire.

How is Restylane® different from bovine collagen?
Restylane® is proven to deliver a longer-lasting effect than traditional collagen, with virtually no risk of animal-based disease transmission or allergic reaction. In addition, bovine collagen is derived from animals (cow) and requires an allergy test. Because Restylane® is non-animal-based, it can be administered without pretesting, so no waiting required.

How long does the treatment take?
Achieving the look you desire is as easy as it is quick. The result is instantaneous. No previous skin test is needed, which means that you can have the treatment immediately. The session often takes less than thirty minutes. The time differs somewhat depending on the correction you want to have performed.

Is the treatment painful?
For wrinkle treatments, pain medication is not required by most patients; however it can be easily arranged at your request. Restylane® is injected directly into the skin in tiny amounts by an ultrafine needle, resulting in minimal discomfort. The procedure is simple and convenient, and results are practically instantaneous. To optimize your comfort, a topical anesthetic cream and ice may be applied to the area to be treated. You can also choose to have a local anesthetic injection.

What should I do prior to treatment?
Restylane® requires no pretesting, but you should take a few precautions before being treated. Avoid using aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications, St. John’s Wort, or high doses of Vitamin E supplements prior to treatment since these may increase bruising or bleeding at the injection site. Also, if you have previously suffered from facial cold sores, there is a risk that the needle punctures could contribute to another recurrence.

What can I expect after treatment?
Immediately after the treatment, you can expect a slight redness, swelling, tenderness and an itching sensation in the treated area. This is a normal result of the injection. The discomfort is temporary and generally disappears in a few days.

When it comes to lip augmentation, the swelling may last longer. Some patients experience swelling for about a week. During this time, the lips can look somewhat uneven and may feel even “lumpy”. This means that the result directly after the treatment should not be regarded as the final result. If the discomfort continues or if other reactions occur, you should always contact your practitioner.

How long does Restylane® last?
One of the great advantages of Restylane® is that it is long-lasting, but not permanent. Studies have shown that the average treatment results last six months or even longer. The unique NASHA® technology helps maintain the cosmetic effect until the injected material is nearly gone. When it breaks down, water takes its place. When totally absorbed, Restylane® turns into water and carbon dioxide and disappears without leaving any trace in your body.

Unlike permanent treatments or implants, Restylane® always leaves you with the option of re-evaluating your needs when the initial effect has worn off. With RESTYLANE, you will always have the option of continuing or changing the combination of treatments. A follow-up can be performed at any time you like after the previous treatment.

How often should I have Restylane® treatments done?
Restylane® lasts twice as long as collagen, so treatments are typically scheduled twice a year. Evidence shows that having a touch-up treatment before the product has fully dissipated will enhance the lasting effect.

What is FotoFacial ?
A skin treatment that comfortably treat Rosacea, spider veins, skin imperfections caused by sun damage and brown spots. SkinRenew Laser Medical Center uses the revolutionary new elos technology which has proved to be the safest most effective and comfortable solution and provides for superior results.

What is FotoFacial RF?
FotoFacial RF is a wrinkle treatment that treats fine wrinkles at the skin’s surface while penetrating into the dermis to treat deeper wrinkles – all in the same procedure, with no downtime. SkinRenew Laser Medical Center uses the revolutionary new elos technology which has proved to be the safest most effective and comfortable solution and provides for superior results.

How does elos work?
elos (electro-optical synergy) uses a unique combination of radio frequency and light to isolate the treatment area and leave the surrounding skin free from potentially harmful side effects. Using gentle pulses of two targeted energies means better results with lower overall energy output — assuring the highest level of safety and comfort. Other systems using only one energy source can’t compare.

What does elos feel like?
Treatment with elos produces a slight tingling feeling, and on the most sensitive areas of the skin, patients may only feel a quick, light pinch. Side effects are very rare, and elos technology assures a higher comfort level than any laser technology available.

Is this a no-downtime procedure?
Absolutely. elos procedures require no sedation. The average procedure taks less than 30 minutes to perform. Immediately following your procedure, you can return to work or you daily schedule with no problem.
